Rick's new ride

Here's a tall 7005 CX frame for a team member who crashed hard on his old frame and totaled it , more or less. I was on a batch of aluminum frames a couple of months ago and squeezed this one in so he could compete this season. He did the decals himself- he's a creative guy and does the artwork for the backdrop of our race podium at our home event. If you come to the race on Oct.29-30 you'll see it and probably him as well.

 

Really tall 7005 frame and Whiskey tapered road fork

Nice fade that the customer asked for. The bike will be set up with Shimano Ultegra Di II 12 speed.

Its a really big bike for a nearly 6'7" rider but it should turn out pretty light. The customer did specify some heavy duty wheels so it won't let him down on rough roads.

 

7005 gravel frame going to PA.

This diminutive frame weighs in at 2 lb. 15 oz. That's about as light a frame as I can build.

The bike will be set up with Sram wireless - hence the lack of cable guides. It is made to take up to 700x42 tires and will be paired with an Enve fork.

 

WCCX frame going to Colorado for a junior

I built a frame for the father of this 15 year old when the father was a junior so I guess it is fitting that I build one for the son. My frames have definitely been updated since the first one in 1993 but the main goal has always been the same- build it so it does not hold the rider back in a race and make it fun to ride .

I hope that this light frame checks both boxes. This one is set up for mechanical shifting- turns out that the 15 year old thinks that electric stuff on a bike is a form of cheating and he wants none of it !

 

Steel SSCX frame for someone on the team

Lightning strikes thrice- this is the third steel frame this fall going to someone on the team who intends to race. This is not to say that steel bikes are archaic but the bulk of the race bikes I build are from aluminum tubes. This one weighs in at 4 lb. 8 oz. Maybe a 1 lb. weight penalty but for this rider I don't think that it will be an issue. 

The frame will be fitted with a Squid EBB , just like most of the other SSCX bikes on the team. The previous bike I built for this rider was aluminum and more suited to gravel endurance events. This one is shorter and steeper to negotiate the frequently tight turns on a typical CX course. I hope that he likes how it rides.

 

Delayed by a hurricane but finally delivered

Yes, hurricane Ian did untold damage to Florida and many people will be digging out of this disaster for some time. One of the minor casualties of this storm could have been this bike but fortunately it made it to its new home after a delay as UPS was shut down in the area for a number of days.

I did not get a full array of photos before sending this bike so the owner kindly provided these shots after building it up. This was only complete build # 2 for the year as parts have been in really short supply. With luck this will not be the case in 2023.

As you can see, this is a mechanical shift Sram hydraulic group with Boyd wheels. There are some Time pedals , Easton stem and seatpost and a set of FSA carbon bars. Its a nice build at about 19 lb. 9 oz. 
 

WCCX frame going to Washington DC.

If you look at the BB shell you'll see if is a PF-30. This will allow the use of a Squid EBB for single speed use. The advantage of doing it this way is to keep the dropout area of the frame simple and rigid. 

This frame will be set up single speed most of the time but can easily be converted to run a 1X geared setup with Sram wireless. I put a large port in the BB shell just in case the owner decides to run Shimano Di II. I did not drill the Di II holes, though. Those can be added at a later date.

This is part of a small batch that will be my final aluminum run of 2022.
